Panjin, the capital is a pleasant town for shopping, and is near to Old Goa with its historical cathedral and basilica.
Goa has some of the best beaches in India, and if swimming in the sea is your priority, you should head for South Goa. This where the newer developments are taking place, with many well planned resorts having swimming pools, extensive grounds with restaurants and gardens, leading to beautiful long clean beaches.
North Goa has a long 10 km stretch of outstanding beach, stretching along from Aguada Fort, Sinquerim, Candolim, Calgute, Mapusa, Bardez,Baga, Anjuna, to Chapura Fort. This is where to go if you like lots of people, action, plenty of stalls and eateries, and sharing the beach with many friends. There are some excellent hotels away from the beach, where you can relax in relative calm, but still within easy reach of the beach and all facilities.
