This is one of the most biodiverse areas in the World, having a tropical climate with up to 3 metres of rain, large areas of backwaters, high mountains (2600 m), and a very long coast, This profusion of different conditions and climates leads to more than 4000 flowering species, and many trees, for example 15 different bamboos, 200 ferns, and 1040 fungi.
There are virgin rainforests, mangrove swamps, and every variation in between. Many of the cultivated crops such as coconut, spices, tea, rubber, and rice, allow diversity of plant life. For example the rivers that run down through the tea estates provide a home for many flowers to thrive. Even in the towns the beautiful trees and blooming shrubs are always present.
